Group Psychotherapy

I like to call this the “relational playground.” Group therapy is a space where group members can interact with one another, learn more about their experiences in relationship, and try on new ways of being and interacting to have more success. It is often a helpful way to address common issues like anxiety, depression, grief, anger, difficulty with assertiveness and/or conflict, and more. Although these issues can be addressed individual therapy, group has the added advantages of offering more minds to think with, finding support and commonality with others so you feel less alone in your struggle, and on a practical note it is more affordable. Group is a great option if you feel like you’ve done as much as you can in individual therapy but still want to experience more growth. You can also do group and individual therapy simultaneously, which can be exceptionally productive for the change you want to experience.

Many people feel anxious or intimidated by group therapy, so I meet with people at least one time individually before they start a group to help them feel prepared and ready. Some people may want or need additional individual sessions before starting the group; there is no limit or expectation.
